Cooper Center Advisory Board
The Cooper Center Advisory Board is a dedicated group of volunteers committed to supporting the mission and future of Camp Cooper. By offering their expertise, insights and resources, they help shape the center's growth, sustainability and impact, ensuring we continue providing meaningful outdoor educational experiences for years to come.
We are recruiting people interested in supporting our mission through volunteer service on one of our three committees and by serving on our full Advisory Board.
Each member of our Advisory Board serves on one or more committees - below is a list of our current committees. Interested candidates can contact coe-coopercenter@arizona.edu or call 520-626-1825.
Advisory Board Committees
The Governance Committee works to support the mission of the Cooper Center for Environmental Learning by identifying needs and using data to establish new systems to assist educational programming, facilities improvement, staffing, fundraising, marketing, communications and other areas of operation.
The Committee also uses data analysis to inform strategic planning and enhance annual reports and other communication.
Committee members provide an inclusive space for all who wish to learn about and care for our unique environment by fostering supportive relationships throughout the community and honoring the diverse perspectives of the students, teachers and families we serve.
The Internal Operations Committee assists in the development of curricula and learning materials for CCEL's educational programs to ensure that they align with state academic standards and common core requirements, with an emphasis on Arizona State Science Standards.
The Committee identifies opportunities to support teachers and the delivery of student learning through research-based, hands-on lessons in science and Earth education at Camp Cooper.
Support includes extended program lessons for classroom teachers, online resources and virtual learning, professional development workshops for educators with a focus on STEM curriculum, and developing partnerships in higher education to prepare future educators.
The External Operations Committee supports Camp Cooper's mission by assisting with marketing and communications goals, including assisting with long-range marketing and communications strategy and planning.
Committee members help identify and cultivate opportunities to information about Camp Cooper through media and community outreach, including social media and other public-facing materials and messages.
Support by the Committee also includes assistance in long-range fundraising strategies and planning, identifying potential donors and actively participating in fundraising events, discussions, brainstorming, and sharing of innovative ideas.
Cooper Advisory Board
Our volunteer Advisory Board members work in partnership with our staff to provide guidance, experience, connections, and inspiration in support of our organizational mission.
The Cooper Center Advisory Board is not a non-profit board. As an outreach program of the University of Arizona, The Cooper Center's non-profit status is maintained by The University of Arizona and the University of Arizona Foundation.
As such, Advisory Board members do not hold formal fiduciary duties for the organization, but in many ways act with the fiduciary and long-term health of the organization in mind.

Strategic Plan
2021-2026
The Cooper Center Strategic Plan addresses five major areas of growth and development, including Programs & Staff, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), Facilities Improvements, Marketing, and Fundraising.
Our goal in creating and sharing this plan is to offer our partners, donors and supporters a clear picture of the future of the Cooper Center, and milestones along the way that we will use to guide our work.
